Through article reading, vocabulary building, summarizing, discussion, and presentations, students will learn to understand and communicate based on current events. AI tools will also be used to support both language learning and news analysis. Depending on circum-stances, there may be an opportunity to interact with a New York Times journalist.Students will be able to read current news, summarize key points in English, and participate in evidence-based discus-sions. Students will evaluate source credibility, framing, and data-based claims, and express opinions and proposals with clear supporting reasons. Students will use AI tools responsibly.Students will be required to complete additional listening, reading, and writing homework outside of class. The majority of the homework assignments will come from digital content. Students who may be sensitive to such content should carefully consider whether this class is a good fit before enrolling.Regular office hours will be held in the form of online office hours using the Microsoft Teams video chat system. Online office hours can be arranged with the teacher by Microsoft Teams chat.Students will practice reading/writing and speaking English while exploring current events with other students and their native English-speaking teacher. There will be a strong emphasis on the development of internal feedback and peer feed-back skills.
