Rich in photos and illustrations, this course offers a unique opportunity to discover the world of ancient Egypt in English. Religion was a fundamental part of the life of every Egyptian. In the second semester, you will read stories on gods and goddesses(based on the stories by Joyce Tyldesley, Tales From Ancient Egypt, 2004)to understand their religious beliefs and mythology. Complicated they may sound, supplemental Japanese reading materials along with explanations in Japa-nese in class should guide you through each story. Their different way of understanding the cosmos may surprise us all! When you complete this course, you can- Comprehend and work through academic materials- Identify the Egyptian gods and goddesses- Explain the major Egyptian mythological stories in English- Work through inconsistent multi-structured Egyptian mythology developed over 3,000 years to find their own internal logic.Work more than 60 hours are required on reviewing on the topic covered in each class, familiarising yourself with Egyp-tian religious ideas. Although opportunities to have access to the real Egyptian materials/objects is very limited in Japan, students are strongly encouraged to visit some related museum exhibitions whenever possible.【第1回】 Guidance: Myths and religion of ancient Egypt【第2回】 Divine Forms and Cosmos【第3回】 Creation Myths of Heliopolis【第4回】 Creation Myth of Hermopolis and of Thebes【第5回】 Creation Myth of Memphis【第6回】 The Secret Name of the Sun God【第7回】 Destruction of Humankind 1【第8回】 Destruction of Humankind 2【第9回】 The Death of Osiris 1【第10回】 The Death of Osiris 2【第11回】 The Dispute of Horus and Seth 1【第12回】 The Dispute of Horus and Seth 2【第13回】 Review Test on Egyptian Mythsン*Topics may be subject to change.Note: If you attend less than 70% of this semester, you will, in principle, not be eligible to earn credits.unless explicitly instructed to do so.抽 選 の 有 無あり備考杉 亜希子第2期講義コード14Z0103102授業形態講義科目名Introduction to Cultures of the World 2〈世界の文明2〉/英語で学ぶ世界の文明2履修前提条件授業の目的到達目標授業外学修内容・授業外学修時間数授業計画成績評価の方法Grades will be based on active class attendance and submission of reports(60%)and final examination(40%).フィードバックの内容The summary and comment sheet will be assessed and returned in the following week.
